KLIPTOWN SOWETO BICYCLE TOUR
In the early 1900's people were moved to the area called Klipspruit Valley and Kliptown. Here, people of all races shared the land. During Apartheid this was the only area around Johannesburg where African people could own a piece of land.
In 1955 anti-Apartheid organisations fighting for democracy in South Africa gathered and signed the Freedom Charter. Today the Charter is the foundation for the country's constitution.
Despite developments in Soweto, the residents of Kliptown still live in difficult conditions where basic services such as housing, electricity and water are urgently needed. In the face of these challenges, there are many people in the community who are fighting for their rights and creating facilities, especially for the young ones. Soweto Kliptown Youth, SKY, is an organisation working in the area, engaging the youth in arts and culture activities such as theatre and dance, education with the aim of creating a more positive lifestyle.
On the bicycle tour you will cycle through Kliptown with a guide who lives in the area. You will learn more about Kliptow's history, meet people from the area and learn about life today. You will also have the opportunity to meet leaders and youth members of SKY and be introduced to their work and activities.
This tour will give you an alternative, up close and personal experience of Soweto and Kliptown.PRICE:
